Can anyone tell me if Shogrens can affect the bowel please? When i have to go feels like its like ripping a scab offf, not saying thats whats happening but feels this way.

Been told i have slow motility of food, taken at minimum 8 days to pass through system but they aborted the test at 8 days, i think its more like 12 days. Any info around this i would help my health board trying to avoid giving me a diagnosis more because its taken them 11 years and not sorted me out, so i would have grounds for negllect not that i would pursue just want to get some normality

Yes it does. Several reasons. First look up info on leaky gut syndrome. Many doctors are starting to believe that toxins leaking from the gut get into bloodstream and cause autoimmune diseases also less fluid and less activity will slow down and cause constipation along with pain meds etc. I have had IBS for years and I do believe it is part of sjogren's syndrome

I've read that the effect of sjogrens goes further than skin, mouth, and eye dryness and even involves the liver because the exocrine glands produce necessary moisture for the organs as well, particularly the GI tract. So without the normal output of digestive enzymes, digestion is slowed down which causes constipation and ibs.

Sjogrens's causes gastroparesis. Been through a really tough period this year

It could be gastroparesis or colonic inertia. I have gastroparesis and I can go 3 weeks without a BM.

I'd recommend seeing a GI doc about a gastric emptying scan

Always struggled with constipation. Didn't know why until is was diagnosed with Sjogrens. I found drinking about a quart a day of alkaline water helps me a lot.
