Has anyone had a recurrence within a year of total thyroidectomy and RAI? Can you share your story? Feeling super scared right now.

Hi. I didn't necessarily have a recurrence 1 year after total thyroidectomy and rai.. We think it just didn't kill it all the first time around.. so my scan was not clean and I repeated a higher dose of treatment 1 year later.

Seven months after my total thyroidectomy and RAI, my thyroglobulin wasn't as low as my endocrinologist would have liked. I don't think it was a recurrence per se. I think my thyroglobulin was still on its way down from my first round of RAI. But I had tall cell so I think my endo was being aggressive. He gave me a second dose of RAI seven months after my first dose. This was 16 years ago.

I definitely have a nodule or lymph node that just tested positive for PTC. They are recommending another surgery. Not sure about RAI.
