How long is needed after a herpes outbreak before having sex? I’m sure everyone has their preferences, but anything scientifically determined?

At least a week after a outbreak

By the time the skin is healed, the virus causing that particular outbreak has retreated. However, it would take up to 5 additional days on antivirals to return to the lowest transmission risk to a non-herpes partner.

I don’t take antivirals (allergic), so is there still decreased risk if I wait longer?

If you have a non-herpes partner, then best to wait until the skin is completely clear and you have no lingering symptoms.

Thanks! The sores are healed, but it typically takes some time for the discoloration to disappear.

if the person has hsv it depends on how ready you feel.

if the person doesn't have it. then I'd wait 10 days.

If the person doesn’t have it and he’s aware of your infection then just wait 2-3 days after the sores are healed and enjoy your life. Don’t make this very minor skin condition take over your life, like what I did , that was my life time mistake which is irreversible . Thanks

As a female, I'd wait longer. Just from personal experience. A vagina is a bit delicate. If you don't wait long enough it could trigger another one or your symptoms may come back.
