Is it normal to put on weight and have blood sugar go up after a week of constipation? I gave my mom senna tea and now she's moving along but now I'm seeing the aftermath. She s strict keto, definitely could eat more veggies. And can someone tell me what strength this is?

Trying to get her meds under control.

If constipated and bulk builds up then there will be at least weight gain equal to the weight of the bulk that hasn’t been evacuated.

Whatever caused the constipation likely also caused stress which can raise BG. Anytime I don’t feel well I can readily see it in my blood glucose.

Electrolyte deficiency can also cause constipation. The body can’t store sodium, it’s constantly getting flushed out. If sodium isn’t replaced in sufficient quantities the body will go after potassium and magnesium. Might want to make sure to get plenty of electrolytes. Not something we would worry about when buying prepackaged foods as they were loaded with sodium.

Janumet is a combination drug. Januvia and Metformin. Per the label each tablet is 50mg of Januvia and 1000mg of Metformin.

So should I have her drink water with pink Himalayan salt? She didn't want to so that because of her HBP, we are constantly trying to figure out what works amd there's so many things to consider. She does take trace minerals but maybe you are correct that she needs more sodium

If on low carb and eating mostly Whole Foods there won’t be much sodium in it. We must have sodium. Add salt.

When I remember I do a half teaspoon of lite salt in 8oz of water twice a day. Over half of lite salt is potassium chloride and slightly less than half is sodium chloride. Great way to get two at once.
