So, since everyone has slightly different outbreaks. Can we talk about what they are like for you? How often do you have them? How long do they typically last? What are your symptoms?

I got diagnosed in Sept with the help of a herpes outbreak it was terrible it felt like there were teeth clamped on my labia. It lasted about a week and a half. My next one was in Jan, it was a bit more tolerable lasted about the same as the other one. Next one, March it was stress induced I knew it was coming it was more tolerable I guess because I was prepared it lasted about a week if that because I used the lemon salve on it. I haven't had one since. I've been keeping my stress down and if I feel any type of awkwardness I'd shower and put on the lemon salve on. I don't know if that's helping as a preventive but I guess it's working somehow because I haven't had one.

My index finger and/ or thumb will itch. Pain along the outside of the finger. Tiny water blister form by the fingernail. Lasts a day. If I scratch hard or bust a blister I get more. Doesn't happen often. It's called herpes whitlow

This is what happens with me. I feel the tiny bumps I never had before doc doesnt believe me. Doc checked but didnt think my bumps were herpes. Then again this is the same clinic that at examing my sore told me it was irrtatation and that I was fine, I can resume sex. Im so glad I didnt have sex during that outbreak. I followed my instincts. They verbally told me I was fine. But in my notes I saw "possible" Herpes instructed patient to resume activity. In my opinion they believe oh well its just herpes and its so not a big deal. Her partner must of gave it to her. Follow up in 2weeks.

My only one I’ve had and the one that diagnosed me was after having the flu or flu-like symptoms for about two weeks. Then the tell tale herpes sores appeared, I was in so much pain, I didn’t pee for like a couple days unless I painfully forced myself. I also stayed in bed so I didn’t have to move so much. Recovered after about two weeks. Hopefully these symptoms don’t ever happen again. Also, maybe tmi, but after I was almost fully recovered, I had some sensations down there if you know what I mean. It’s sounds weird but it was probably nerve-related as that is what herpes is really. And then I had some normal prodromal sensations in my thighs sometime after that.

Do you take anti-vitals now? Your experience sounds similar to mine. and I'm wondering if I should go on the meds daily.

Andree I do take them daily.

Maybe the anti-vitals have helped you avoid another outbreak after that first awful one! Many people on the anti-vitals say that subsequent outbreaks are infrequent, mild, or never happen again. thanks for sharing! I'm going to ask for ongoing anti-virals, too.

Andree it’s helped so far! I hope it stays that way.

The first couple of times they were extremely painful. That was two years ago. Now its mainly the itch and tingly feeling. It's more bothersome if you ask me.

I usually start getting nerve pain in my legs and butt and the itchy feeling on my penis. If I get a herpes outbreak it is on my shaft specifically the foreskin (circumcised) one or two small blisters usually gone in about 5-7 days. Wanted to add I currently get a herpes outbreak every 8-12 months my last one was Aug 2017.

Lysine and continuous birth control mean I only get like 3 a year. The back of my thighs get extremely sensitive and painful and I feel like I have the flu.

The last outbreak I had was about a month ago. It was my second in two years because I am always able to stop my prodrome before it becomes a full outbreak. This time I had to go off my birth control for two weeks and I broke out after a few days and it happened so fast I couldn’t stop it. It was a bitch to get rid of. Lysine and two Valtrex a day and it still took almost 3 weeks to get rid of. Absolutely miserable!

How do you stop your prodrome before it becomes a full outbreak?

Answered 5 months ago    reply

Andree Prodrome always feels the same for me, so when I feel it I take 2 Valtrex a day, plus my secret weapon is Sambucol. It’s a vitamin-herb concoction you can find down the cold and flu aisle at any pharmacy. You can take it like every 3 hours, so I take the max amount and sleep it off. I’m usually feeling totally normal within 48 hours, 72 if it was going to be a bad one.

I've been HSV2 pos since 2001.
I've been on daily Valtrex since then. I have a herpes outbreak about once every 2 years. It's a teeny, tiny spot on the inside of my labia (think the size of a pencil point, same location every time). It's extremely stingy (especially when I urinate) so I can't wipe during a herpes outbreak. I blot. From the first sensation/tingle until it's all healed. 7-10days.

had my initial outbreak november 2017, felt weak and fatigued for the first 3 months, yet I havent got any blisters or sores again( knock on wood) yet when I sweat or stay wet, I get itchy on my pubic area and get this kinda burning sensation, kinda like prodrome symptoms but no outbreak. my genital skin definitely got more sensitive since then and the glans on my penis got fordyce spots and this dry looking aspect that hasnt gone back like it was before the herpes. its confusing, the doctors have told me im fine and its normal, that im really lucky I haven´t had another outbreak, I take lysine when I remember to take it, no special diet, still drinking, smoking weed and surfing like I used to. im just scared to pass it to someone so I havent dated or party that much.

My initial outbreak was very mild in Mar 2013. Before herpes, I always got irritated when my menses would start. But that day, it felt funny. Had one bump, which was raw to touch, but no excruciating pain at all. Went to doc, she swabbed and did bloodwork. Came back HSV2+. It was gone by the third day. My outbreak's are very mild now. Maybe 2x a yr. They last for about 3 days. I just use baking soda paste on it.

Never have them in the same place & never the same way. They are so mild it is hard even tell if they are outbreaks . But I trust my gut & just assume they are. I take meds off & on.

I have no idea when I have them. they’ve never been bad enough to bother me or be what I would consider ‘painful’.

I get them right after ovulation mostly,Small blisters, last for a few days. My first one was 3 years ago and I had no clue what a hell is this! I try not to think about it but sometimes its hard,I feel like something was taken from me!and asked myself a few times why me?! But it is what it is now,I have to leave with it! Exercise helps me with the emotions and eating healthy! But I don’t take any medication I don’t if I should or it would help, its different for everyone!
