She said it is an option to do it again (which would mean another week of thyrogen shots, etc.), but she was hesitant to do that because my anxiety is so bad currently and thyrogen makes it worse. She lowered my dose and switched me to Synthroid from levothyroxine in an attempt to help the anxiety. Anyone ever been in this situation? I'm worried because the whole reason for the scan was because my levels were wonky and there was reason to suspect recurrence. Is this just my anxiety taking over, or is my cancer coming back and being sneaky about it? What should I do?
They can test your thyruglobulin at any time.
She said something about it being tested after having been give the RAI, as that would stimulate it mire if there is recurring cancer. To be honest, I am not thinking straight, so I'm not sure I'm understanding. This anxiety has me in a serious fog.
That is true and it can be more accurate. But if there is reoccurring cancer that number will increase regardless.
Thank you. That makes me feel better.
Yes, my bloodwork was not done at the time of my scan too. My thyroidglobulin was checked a few months later. The levels were good and have been fine for 13 years now.
Good! Hopefully mine will be the same!
May I ask what your levels have been
I switched to unithroid from synthroid- helped my anxiety tons
Good to know. 3rd med and no relief in anxiety. So far levothyroxine. Synthroid and tirosent
Lanell I had synthroid, levothyroxine and then unithroid. It’s worked great (synthroid was also not keeping my levels good either)
For both of my RAI no one ever checked my thyroglobulin. The first time I didn't know they were supposed to. The 2nd I knew they were supposed to but they didn't. I have been cancer free for 5 yrs.
Me too! Hoping we stay that way!!
After I did RAI my thyroglobulin levels were up but the scan showed nothing. I was then Sent to do a PET scan with a small dose of radioactive tracer. This showed several tumours which did not show up before.
Yikes! Were they able to treat them?
Alishia we are working on it. Started taking Lenvima.
