What causes chest pain in POTS, like left side sharp pain. I've done echo, EKG, heart monitor, had an ablation for SVT which reduced the occurrence of chest pain, but I just had some chest pain for a few seconds and then it went away.

How many of you experience chest pain and what have your doctors said about it?

It was like really sharp on,and off for maybe 29 seconds and then stopped. I've mention chest pain to my cardiologist before, but he's never said anything specific before

I get it very sharp on the left side. Never gotten an explanation for it other than perhaps small blood vessel restriction causing temporary ischemia

Answered 7 months ago    reply

Costcochronditis. It does not show up on tests.

Million.omniscient
Answered 7 months ago    reply

can you tell me a lil about this! Its scary and can I die from it

smadaline
Answered 7 months ago    reply

It is not affecting your heart. It is an inflammation. I do not think you could die from it but is sure hurts like something is really wrong.

Answered 7 months ago    reply

I have it constantly along with shortness of breath, but on both sides of my chest. Happens mostly at night to the point that I cannot even sleep on my left side because it is too painful. My cardiologist says it is non specific chest pain and has nothing to do with the heart.

Ibuprofen is the gift from god for costochondritis

DLeeper97
Answered 7 months ago    reply

Costcochronditis causes that for me. My doctors are just guessing that though. He gave me some cortisone shots directly in my chest and it clears up for a year or so. Then reoccurs.

Million.omniscient

DLeeper97
Answered 7 months ago    reply

Mine feelsss like it’s deeper than that too. But after an insane number of tests he assured me it wasn’t. And that it was inflammation in the cartilage surrounding the bones.

DLeeper97
Answered 7 months ago    reply

Also, the shots suck. Last time he gave me 16 of them in about 5 minutes. they hurt.
But they relieve that chest pain so well and it was worth it and actually a very affordable treatment.

DLeeper97
Answered 7 months ago    reply

It’s always these sharp deep pains. I feel like I can hardly move and it can affect my breathing. It gets worse and more frequent over time until I go back in for more shots.
But yeah. I’d have never believed it wasn’t deeper than that without $4000 (after insurance) in tests and the $40 of shots actually fixing it.

I went to the er for sharp persistent chest pain that was on my left side. I thought it was a great attack. The dr reassured me after a few tests and an EKG that its a common POTS symptom. (I was diagnosed with POTS that same er visit) it happens to me about 2-5 times a day now. I still always feel like its a heart attack but its not. It is a very scary sensation.

I also have this happen all throughout day and night .mine lasts sometimes up to 20 min . I've been told not heart related, and the costo thing, angina but never any definate reasons just know I haven't died from it or had heart damage from it occurring often . I find drinking very cold water and resting helps sometimes . I also have IST and mine happens more often when my heart rate is a bit fast.

t.hisako79

I’m in this same boat. It sucks. One of my drs suggested it may be a type of spasm (prinzmetal angina).

I had ablation for SVT as well and was diagnosed with POTS afterwards

Me too. Mine was specifically for wpw/SVT. I'll ask about the angina

When they first started happening to me I would freak out & think I was having a heart attack. Sometimes it’s on my ribs, other times it feels like my heart is being clenches & sometimes it’s even is so sharp of a pain I hold my breath so I don’t have to move my lungs cause it hurts so bad. Doctor told me it’s just part of POTS & our wacky nervous system. It also could be costrocondritis which is also a symptom of POTS & fibromyalgia. Never a dull moment with having pots that’s for sure

I have been hurting like that for about 10 yrs & have told my cardiologist many times. He says it is Mitro Valve Prolapse & there is nothing I can do. I hurt from my chest all the way to under my shoulder blades & my back feels numb from the outside

Feist
Answered 7 months ago    reply

Umm if you have mitral valve prolapse and are in this much pain for that long of a time period you should immediately go to the ER or get a new cardiologist! My dad has mitral valve prolapse and genetically gave it to me as well. You should be on medication (especially is you have pots) to keep your heart rate down so you don’t cause more damage and increase the progress of the valve prolapse. You should also be getting a echo atleast once a year to track its progression because once it gets bad enough surgery IS REQUIRED! I feel so bad that you were told nothing can be done when that’s so so false and dangerous for you to think!

Lamar , thank you. I am on Pindolol which slows my heart rate & I take Midodrine for my Blood pressure. They have been life savers for me and my cardiologist had been a life saver in a lot of ways, but I think that is all he knows to do. I do have an EKG about every 6 months, but I haven’t had an echo in years

Feist
Answered 7 months ago    reply

That makes me feel a little better atleast! Please try to get a echo though. That way they can visibly see what level it’s at! I hope for the best and good luck

I have sudden onset, very severe chest pain. Only way I can describe is like a cramp in my heart. It may not be life-threatening, but it is dang sure scary and disabling when it happens. I literally cannot speak, cannot move, and just freeze and hold on until it passes which usually does in less than 5 minutes or so. I also have PFO and MVP. Was told years ago that they no longer recommend taking antibiotics prior to dental procedures for MVP patients. Well, I disagree since I had pericarditis following a dental cleaning.
